In the opening of Bones season 5, episode 2 entitled, The Bond in the Boot, Dr. Brennan and Agent Booth meet Lena Brodsky.
Brodsky tells them that she hired a courier for her diamond company named Yuri Antanov.
Antanov was supposed to be carrying $2 million worth of gems from Siberia into the United States in a briefcase for her clients. She tells that them that Greg Dorit, a CIA analyst, captured and killed Yuri, took the briefcase of diamonds and stashed it in a secret place.
It is later revealed that Ms. Brodsky oversaw the kidnapping of Dorit. She tortured and later killed him in a failed attempt at getting him to reveal information regarding the briefcase.
The team also realizes that what is really in the briefcase is dangerous to U.S. national security.
