The TV Guide write up for How I Met Your Mother: Season 5 Episode 7 called The Rough Patch goes like this:
Barney and Robin’s romance falters, and Lily comes up with a scheme to break up the unhappy couple that involves a little help from Robin’s celebrity friend, Alan Thicke (who appears in a cameo).
Well, of course there’s going to be a rough patch. Every couple goes through it and with Barney’s ego, it’s a thick patch to work through. Plus, it seems that there has to be a rough patch because CBS doesn’t show porn on their family hour broadcasts yet.
Besides, everyone knows that this couple isn’t meant to last. The show’s dynamic has to rely on discovery and, as we get closer to Ted meeting “Mother,” there needs to be change and movement to bring the audience into that moment.
In any case, it should be fun watching Neil Patrick Harris in his fat suit.
So, in SE0507, watch for Alan Thicke (is he still a celebrity?.. maybe at just at the game show level, huh?) and also watch for Barney and Lily to make out… relax. It’s just a “what-if future scenario” scene.
