The Wrestler is an award-winning movie based on a professional wrestler from the 1980’s era. It was about the life of Randy “The Ram” Robinson (played by Mickey Rourke) and all the hardships he went through with his personal life as well as how it affected his career.
The Wrestler Summary and Spoiler
The movie is basically set about 20 years after his fame faded away. He now just lives his leftover career through performing in high school gyms and community centers for die-hard wrestling fans in the state of New Jersey.
Randy lived his life for the thrill of the show and of course all of the die-hard fans that always supported him. Obviously, it wasn’t the money because he lived in a trailer home and he also had to work at a grocery store in the deli department.
He tries to start a romance with an exotic dancer named Cassidy (played by Marisa Tomei) and he also tries to reconnect with his daughter that he left when she was just a child. Of course, both of those relationships turn sour because he screws up with his daughter by promising to meet for dinner and not showing up until hours later. He ended up sleeping with someone he met at a bar and completely forgetting.
As for the relationship with the exotic dancer, she doesn’t want to get involved with her “clients” but eventually she starts feeling something for him.
Randy eventually has a heart attack which basically forced him to retire from the wrestling world. The doctors tell him that if he wrestles again, he might not make it out of the ring.
While this is shocking news to him, he basically tries to evaluate his life and his priorities. He asks for more hours at his supermarket deli job, tries to reconnect with his daughter and tries to spend more time with the exotic dancer outside of the stripper club.
The deli job turns sour and quits after he freaks out and cuts his hand. His daughter doesn’t want anything to do with him anymore because he always let’s her down.
After that, he decides to come out of retirement and wrestle again even though it could possibly kill him.
As he prepares for the last fight, getting ready to walk out onto the stage, Cassidy comes to tell him that she wants to be with him and that he doesn’t want him to wrestle. He gets caught up in the thrill of it all and goes in the ring.
As he’s wrestling, getting on the top ropes to jump off, he feels his chest hurting and heart weakening and he looks over where Cassidy was and saw that she had already left. He then jumps off the top ropes and the movie ends there.
The assumption is the fact that he dies in the ring after making the jump because he had nothing else to live for. His daughter doesn’t want anything to do with him and Cassidy just walked out on him.
