It looks like Watchmen got watched even with all the bad critic reviews prior to the movie hitting the box-office this past weekend. Watchmen debuted with over $55 million for its opening weekend and a little over $70 million worldwide.
Now there were probably higher expectations for this movie and quite honestly, I thought it would’ve made more than the $55 million. I was guessing somewhere around $70-$80 million from the states but obviously I was wrong.
The same director of 300, Zack Snyder, obviously had high expectations especially since his last movie debuted at $70+ million. And as we know, most movies slowly decrease in earning as each week progresses.
Following Watchmen in second was Madea Goes to Jail which took in another $8.8 million and continues to surprise everybody with its success since its opening week.
Third followed Taken which is yet another box-office surprise, then Slumdog Millionaire and Paul Blart: Mall Cop rounding out the top five.
